Jade & Billy’s calm and happy weekend wedding at Gretna Green was everything they had imagined

Jade & Billy reminisce:

Can you tell me about your theme if you had one, the inspiration behind it and how you incorporated it into your wedding? We didn’t have a theme as such, but we had a colour scheme of sage green and rose pink due to it being a spring wedding. We knew we wanted the wedding to be a relaxed event, that was the whole point of us getting married at Gretna Green.

What first drew you to your wedding venue? We originally had a ‘big’ wedding booked close to us in Leeds, but as the wedding was looming, the stress was building and I had a change of heart on what I wanted for the wedding day. I did some research into smaller weddings, and came across Gretna Green. I instantly fell in love with the marriage room ‘The Coach House’, I’d never seen a more beautiful traditional marriage room. Then all it took was convincing my now husband Billy to change our whole wedding day, it didn’t take much convincing seeing as Gretna Green is so gorgeous!

What was the atmosphere like on the big day? The atmosphere on the wedding day was just what we’d imagined. It was calm, happy, chilled, we had a fantastic weekend. The UK weather held out for us and we had a very warm sunny day. Our party of 13 people spent most of the day out on the lawn in the sunshine, playing games with our 8-year-old son, drinking and taking it all in.

How did your chosen venue go above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect? We stayed and were married at Gretna Hall Hotel and couldn’t fault them at all. We were quite worried beforehand, getting married so far away, it being disorganised or communication being lost, but we couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. The staff couldn’t do enough for us, our rooms were perfect, the running of the wedding was perfect, the food was delicious! We had the most wonderful minister, Keith Teasdale, our ceremony was unforgettable and we feel very blessed to have had him.

Who was your chosen Photographer and why did you choose them? Our chosen photographer was Chloe Grierson. We did lots of research beforehand into photographers and the style of photos we wanted. Chloe was fantastic, such a lovely lady. She could see we were very nervous and she completely made us feel at ease. We didn’t feel overwhelmed or pressured at all by Chloe, she just had a lovely caring attitude towards us. The photos came out beautifully and were thrilled with them.

What was the most memorable part of your day? The most memorable part of our day was Keith our minister announcing us as husband and wife. Keith then sealed the marriage by striking the Anvil with a hammer, he also let our son Alistair strike the Anvil which was a lovely way of getting him involved and finishing the ceremony.
