Stunning Safari

Treat yourselves to a stunning safari

Great Plains Réserve-Collection Water-Based Safari Camp in the Okavango Delta Built from 100% Recycled MaterialsBuilt on a raised, wrap-around railway sleeper private deck, Sitatunga Private Island can accommodate a maximum of four adults in two separate and stunning private suites. The spacious double-bedroom Sitatunga Private Island Suite hosts four adults or a family of two adults and up to three children, offering a total footprint of approximately 607m2. Sitatunga Private Island can host up to eight guests in total sharing the two suites and the two-bedroom Sitatunga Private Island Suite.

Constructed almost entirely of recycled materials, breathing new life into old treasures, the new camp offers discerning explorers a ‘slow safari’ experience that is as sustainable as it is luxurious. Each of the two guest suites, as well as the 2-bedroomed Sitatunga Private Island Suite comes complete with an indoor lounge, gorgeously appointed bathrooms with baths and separate showers, a private deck with outdoor lounging and seating areas as well as a private pool with expansive views over the lagoon that stretches in front of the camp itself.

Sitatunga Private Island will provide guests with the most authentic ‘Robinson Crusoe’-inspired experience and a refuge for the soul in the Okavango Delta. As elaborated by Dereck Joubert, CEO of Great Plains:
“Sitatunga Private Island is unlike any other Great Plains property, pushing the eco-design boundary in a remote region in Botswana whilst also offering the highest level of hospitality and accommodation. It is also one of the few locations in the world where one can still see sitatunga, the rare aquatic antelope, from camp and by boat, which is the main activity here in addition to walking. It is deep Okavango Delta and, as such, is rich in birding. Head out on a boat to view elephants, crocodiles, and hippos all day, every day. I know our guests will enjoy every moment of it, as I do”.

As a water-based camp, guests can choose from a variety of ‘slow safari’ adventures, from boating safaris and mekoro rides and more. For the traditionalist, walking safaris and game drives are also available, and for a truly indulgent celebration, guests can even opt for a scenic private helicopter tour of the Okavango Delta – complete with champagne, naturally! Flexibility is at the core of every Great Plains’ stay, and guests are encouraged to create their own unique itinerary in line with their interests, with guidance and recommendations from professional guides who know the Delta like the back of their hand.

“Sitatunga Private Island is the perfect camp to slow down in, to walk, to get on the ever-soothing water”, adds Joubert. “Get on the river. Let its pace determine yours, give yourself to it and find silent moments on your safari. Because, like the river, it is not about the water itself but the journey.”

For those guests keen to unwind within their new home-away-from-home in Botswana, Sitatunga Private Island offers yoga mats, an exercise bike, and light weights with in-room massages available upon request. A unique wine cellar and boutique complete with D&B Explorer clothing are also available. Each suite also comes complete with a complimentary professional camera and lens set, for use while out on the water/in the bush, ensuring lifelong memories can be captured during one’s stay.

Nightly rates at Sitatunga Private Island start from £1,525 per night on an all-inclusive basis. Children must be aged 6 and upwards. For more information or to book, visit https://greatplainsconservation.com/safari/sitatunga-private-island/

A celebration of all things wedding

A celebration of all things wedding

Since lockdown lifted, most wedding suppliers have been swamped.
Foot to the floor, giving 100% to every client and playing catch-up with the wedding backlog created in 2020/2021. It has been welcome relief and a joy to get back to what all wedding suppliers do best. However, it means there hasn’t been much chance to improve, learn and boost skill sets. Every single wedding professional at the top of their games always looks to push themselves, to try new techniques, experiment and of course, have fun!
All local to the area, photographer Stuart from 1500 Photography, KJ from The Wedding Planner Bridal, make up artist Debbie and Lorna from Get it Glam pulled their creative talents together (along with models Jennifer and Stephanie) for a styled shoot on the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond.
What started off as an idea to showcase their talents became a rich and inspiring shoot with the wonderful Cameron House providing a stunning backdrop for the photographs.
Inspired by the landscape, the venue, two very beautiful ‘brides’ and the opportunity for them all to stretch their ‘creative muscles’. What started off as a chance to work together as industry friends, back at one of Scotlands top venues, soon became a celebration of all things wedding.
From the details on the dresses to the décor of Cameron House, from the lightest touches of natural make up to the blackest of dresses!
Celebrating some of the amazing gowns KJ had sourced from Ronald Joyce, watching in awe as Lorna (hair) and Debbie (make up) created two incredible and very different looks on the models. With the chance to experiment with different styles and techniques that may not get used during a real wedding. This fantastic team finished the day completely energised and inspired.
We hope these pictures will inspire you too.

Voyage of a lifetime

Voyage of a lifetime

After their destination wedding in Lake Como, Italy, globe trotters – Suzy Guttler and Juan Castillo embarked on their happily ever after with a honeymoon to the South Pole.

Traveling the world has always been a big part of our lives and of our relationship. Juan and I have swam in the clearest crystal blue waters of French Polynesia, we’ve immersed ourselves in the historical and cultural splendors of the Great Pyramids. We’ve trekked alongside families of gorillas through the rainforests of East Africa, and have hiked the majestic, alpine ranges of Everest Base Camp. Our quest for the most profound place in the world to honeymoon lead us to our 7th continent – Antarctica. We set sail aboard Quark Expeditions’ World Explorer vessel for a 10-day voyage from Ushuaia, the southern-most tip of Argentina, to the Great White Continent.
Each day in Antarctica presented a new discovery. We marched alongside colonies of penguins in their natural habitat, and navigated through towering, incandescent icebergs. We hiked in the footsteps of bold explorers who discovered the continent only two centuries ago. The most memorable experience was kayaking along the Antarctic Peninsula. When you kayak, it’s a water level experience – we could reach into the water and touch the peaceful polar seas. We grabbed pieces of ice as they drifted by and tasted it. We watched penguins and whales glide through the water just inches away from our kayak. There was nothing more invigorating, more uplifting than paddling among majestic emerald-blue icebergs and mysterious glaciers. Being careful not to get too close to the icebergs in case they tipped, we marveled at how beautiful they were from water level. Knowing that these chunks of ice were thousands of years old was awe-inspiring.
The best part after a long day of exploring – warming up in our cozy cabin and enjoying a private, romantic moment with the Great White Continent from our balcony.
Amidst all of the transformative experiences, the most fascinating was discovering that the wildlife aren’t scared of us. In fact, they were receptive to our relatively close encounters. Whales would swim up to a few feet from our Zodiac boats, and our little penguin friends would waddle in front of us and right up to our camera lens. The curious wildlife in Antarctica have never been hunted by humans, so they have no reason to fear our presence.
We’ve always joked about traveling to outer space, but who knew we could find that experience on earth. Antarctica was like being on another planet, a surreal and otherworldly experience. There really isn’t another destination that’s more transformative, more enigmatic, and more romantic than the Great White Continent. (Think Titanic without the sinking situation.) Together we’ve braved the elements, and voyaged to the word’s most distant and isolated region. There’s no beaten path there.

For more information on how you can start your journey to Antarctica, visit www.quarkexpeditions.com

Why Gibraltar is the new destination wedding hotspot

Those looking to host their own fairy tale wedding overseas should look no further than the jewel of the Mediterranean, Gibraltar. The British Overseas Territory has become a popular wedding destination due to a number of factors including ease of travel, beautiful weather, affordability and stunning venues. For those looking to book a destination wedding they’ve always dreamed of, we’ve rounded up just a few of the many reasons why Gibraltar should be at the top of the list.

No currency exchange
As Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory, the pound is used meaning there is no need to change any money to use in the destination. With the current unpredictable currency fluctuations, the use of the pound when booking a wedding means there will be no unexpected surprises or hidden costs when it comes to the big day. Couples can book their venue, entertainment, caterers and more, knowing that the prices they are quoted will stay the same, taking the stress out of planning.

Mediterranean climate
Due to its geographical proximity to both Europe and Africa, Gibraltar’s climate is subtropical, with mild winters and warm summers. For those in search of perfect weather for their big day, the summer months bring that idyllic Mediterranean heat, great for an outdoor wedding, with the chance of rain very low. With temperatures soaring into the high 20s and 30s come June and July, and staying warm in spring and autumn, a wedding in Gibraltar is sure-fire way to be a hit with the guests, making the day even more special.

Stunning venues
No wedding is complete without a spectacular backdrop, and a beautiful venue for couples to cherish their special day. Gibraltar is home to a host of unique wedding venues, making it the perfect place for a bespoke wedding experience like no other. From the Sunborn Hotel, the world’s first five star superyacht hotel, to the tranquil and photogenic Alameda Botanical Gardens or even the Mons Calpe Suite, a restaurant and venue balanced right at the top of the Rock, there is no shortage of venues to suit any wedding celebration.

Great value flights from the UK
Travelling for a destination wedding can be costly, especially when flights for big groups are involved, but travel to Gibraltar is easy, efficient and affordable. With direct flight times under three hours from the UK and regular services from multiple airports with both British Airways and EasyJet, return flights start from just £31 per person. Travellers should book early to get the best deals, especially come the summer months.

No residency restrictions
When planning a destination wedding, many people worry about the legal implications, paperwork and residency restrictions that come with it. However, in Gibraltar, there is no need to stress, as those wishing to get married will only need to present to the registry office 24 hours before the marriage, and prove that they have stayed in Gibraltar overnight, allowing for less worry and more celebrations. Couples who tie the knot in Gibraltar can expect to receive their wedding certificate by mail within three weeks.

Follow in the footsteps of celebrities
Even some of the most famous Hollywood stars can testify to Gibraltar being a great location for a destination wedding. Laurence Harvey and Margaret Leighton were among the first celebrities to tie the knot in Gibraltar, with other notable stars following in their footsteps, including Sean Connery, John Lennon and Yoko Ono and Sarah Churchill. It’s easy for couples to get married like a star in Gibraltar, without the celebrity price tag.

Bella Donna FW22 by Liz Martinez

For centuries, Italy has been considered the birth of place of elegance, beauty and sophistication. From the days of the Roman Empire, to the Renaissance, to the birth of New Wave Italian Cinema and stars such as Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni and Federico Fellini.

Italy also personifies the quintessential modern woman – classy and innovative, timeless and contemporary, effortless and opulent. It’s no wonder Liz Martinez, Israeli couture bridal designer, has been drawn back to this place, time and time again, for its majestic style and timeless inspiration. “Bella Donna”, Martinez’s latest collection of 19 stunning bridal gowns, was inspired by and shot on location in Italy, on the shimmering shores of Lake Bolsena.
Surrounded by majestic cobble stone streets, lively piazzas, and the awe-inspiring Basilica of Saint Christina, each one of Liz Martinez’s gown tells a story – one of endless wonder, of lively playfulness, and of dazzling elegance. She’s clearly pushed the envelope and her design expertise yet again – crafting even more daring silhouettes and introducing the use of innovative laser cut leather fabrics for the very first time. Yet she still maintains her signature style: flowy sheer tulle layering, alabaster tones, and bedazzling embroidered crystals, pearls and 3D floral motifs.
From plunging necklines to off the shoulder a-symmetrical looks, each gown is supremely crafted, exquisitely elegant and breathtakingly beautiful. It captures the spirit of Italy and the essence of femininity in such an effortless way – we can’t wait to see where Liz Martinez’s inspiration takes her next.

Intimate Paradise Island Weddings and Honeymoons

AT KUDADOO PRIVATE ISLAND AND HURAWALHI MALDIVES

With the variety of options for intimate weddings in private settings, Kudadoo Private Island and Hurawalhi Island Resort in the Maldives’ Lhaviyani Atoll have seen a 50% increase in bookings from couples, looking to create perfect memories to last a lifetime.
Bradley Calder, General Manager of Kudadoo and Hurawalhi says, “Privacy has become the ultimate luxury in today’s environment and for couples wanting to stay away from large gatherings, Kudadoo – with only 15 rooms and Hurawalhi – with the option to marry in our 5.8 Undersea Restaurant as well as on our own ‘Dream Island’ – are the perfect considerations for an intimate destination wedding or a bucket-list worthy honeymoon, or indeed both!”
Exceptional service is another marker in the world of luxury hospitality. Bradley Calder remarks, “My approach to luxury hospitality is to map the service sequence for each and every guest experience and to see how we can make it as effortless as possible for the guest.
Both Kudadoo and Hurawalhi offer couples a dedicated Butler and Island Host. The Butler and Island Hosts proactively look after their guests and are on call to look after the couple’s needs throughout their stay.

Weddings
At both Kudadoo Private Island and Hurawalhi Island Resort, a dedicated wedding planner is on hand for the entirety of the planning process to tailor the wedding to the couple’s needs from wedding photography, fine dining, beauty and wellbeing treatments, live entertainment, decoration and the all-important wedding cake.
Couples have the choice of a variety of ceremony venues at both resorts from:
5.8 Undersea Wedding: Exchange vows at the world’s largest undersea restaurant and you may have some unexpected wedding guests show up to pique their curiosity from behind the glass!
Beach wedding on Dream Island: If guests choose this tiny sandbank for their ceremony the bride or groom will walk down an aisle of powder white sand surrounded by the turquoise lagoon before exchanging vows with their loved one.
Ocean wedding: Onboard Bella, the resorts’ luxury yacht exchange vows surrounded by the ocean blue.
Champagne Pavilion: Add some sparkle to the ceremony and exchange vows at this oceanside hideaway. With a bit of luck, the passing dolphins may put on a special spinning, twisting and jumping performance as couples say, “I do”.
Private island buyout: The wedding party can ‘own’ their own private island for ultimate privacy by taking the island buyout option at Kudadoo. At Kudadoo, the newlyweds and all wedding guests will have access to personal butlers available 24 hours a day to ensure the party never stops.

Honeymoons
Both resorts have some of the largest private overwater villas in the Maldives, providing the perfect space to take in the sunset. Couples can also indulge in:
Luxury sailing: For a romantic and adventure-filled day, enjoy the views and underwater marvels that the Lhaviyani Atoll is renowned for.
Escape to a private island: For ultimate privacy a sandbank with coral sand and the balmy waves of the Indian Ocean.
Pampering at the spa: Sense-seducing massages, beauty treatments and romantic indulgences for couples – there is no shortage of spa and well-being treatments.
Candlelit dinner on the beach: Dining experience under the stars, with romantic music, that is best enjoyed with a carefully selected wine pairing menu.
Floating Champagne breakfast: This unique breakfast experience is in the intimacy of your pool villa.
Anything, Anytime, Anywhere: From delightful culinary creations, to unlimited leisure activities and wellness, the ultimate luxury itinerary will be curated with the assistance of a personal butler.
